One of the deadliest campus shootings in U.S. History occurred on August 1, 1966, at the University of Texas, where Charles Whitman climbed to the 28th floor observation deck of the University of Texas Tower and opened fire, killing 16 people and wounding 33 others before he was gunned down by Austin Police Officers
On this 60th Anniversary evening, the Austin Police Association was honored to welcome as their guests the heroic APD Officers that chose to climb the UT Tower and put an end to Austin's most historic tragedy.
